New design launched November 2011
Inscription: ALL I ASK IS A TALL SHIP AND A STAR TO STEER HER BY
The design is based on the ship’s wheel from the famous sailing clipper Cutty Sark. The wheel was large, measuring nearly two metres in diameter. The ship, designed to last 20 years, was launched on 23rd November 1869. She sailed in the China tea trade over the next decade and was one of the fastest clippers. The quotation is from the well known poem Sea Fever by John Masefield (1878 - 1967) who was for many years Poet Laureate. It captures in two lines the romance and excitement of a sailing ship at sea.
With acknowledgement to The Society of Authors as the Literary Representative of the Estate of John Masefield.
Fixing Points: One hole: in the centre of the wheel
Dimensions: 11.5cm
